As Greenland opens more windows to the world, it looks towards a new future of tourism, in balance with nature, people, and culture. The Pledge Towards Better Tourism is Visit Greenland's step in this direction. Developed through deep stakeholder engagement, beginning with the 2023 Towards Better Tourism conference, the Pledge offers a unifying foundation for responsible growth across Greenland's visitor economy.
Built on five core commitments rooted in Greenland's oldest tale of sustainability – the tale of Sassuma Arnaa, mother of the sea – the Pledge invites tourism operators across Greenland to take part in a collective movement toward better practices, for and by all. Call it the small print with big consequences. Businesses that sign on gain visibility and contribute to growing awareness in working towards better tourism. And the world has taken notice, with BBC and Lonely Planet praising Greenland as a model for sustainable tourism. The Pledge is also the first step towards a certification programme for Greenland's tourism sector, and towards the tourism Greenland wants.
