From European Cities Marketing to CityDNA: how Europe’s leading urban destination network reinvented itself in an era beyond destination marketing.

In March 2022, the organisation formerly known as European Cities Marketing got a new name and identity – City Destinations Alliance. The rebranding marked a significant shift that had been underway for several years, accelerated by the pandemic, and that brought about a new reality, where destination leadership involves much more than marketing. The given challenge was to rename and reimagine a trusted network of over 120 European cities without losing the spirit that holds it together. Still, a new name and identity were needed to carry forward European Cities Marketing and its community that had outgrown its label.
The results is City Destinations Alliance (CityDNA), a name that nods to a place where members come together, not only around their shared identity as European city destinations, but to form an alliance that celebrates and empowers the thriving visitor ecosystems they represent. Unveiled in early 2022, the rebrand repositions City Destinations Alliance as a global voice for sustainable urban destinations and reaffirms its promise to shape a better urban tourism for residents and visitors alike in Europe.
