A 100-kilometre hiking route to connect nature, culture, and communities across Denmark's South Zealand.
A 100-kilometre hiking route to connect nature, culture, and communities across Denmark's South Zealand.
Between the windswept coastlines of Faxe Ladeplads and Karrebæksminde lies a stretch of South Zealand that most visitors still just pass by on the motorway. But that’s about to change. With Vandrelandet Selandia, the region’s municipalities, Visit Sydsjælland & Møn, Realdania, and Dansk Kyst- og Naturturisme have joined forces to reimagine Zealand’s south as a landscape of walking, wonder, and regeneration.
The municipalities knew their landscape was rich in contrasts – from the glass heritage of Holmegaard to the green heights of Gisselfeld’s forest tower – but fragmented. Therefore, the goal was to create a strategic physical development plan that ties these destinations together. Group NAO took on this challenge, analysed the market potential, and developed a brand narrative for a place where heritage, community and nature walk hand in hand. The result was a concept for a unique 100-kilometre hiking route that strings together coast and countryside, forests and fjords, glassworks and chalk cliffs, and invites visitors to rediscover one of Denmark’s most overlooked regions on foot.
